Samoa

The Independent State of Samoa is an oceanian country composed of multiple islands in the South Pacific Ocean. Savaii and Upolu being the main and the biggest of the island group. The island of Savaii being the biggest one and also at the same time quite undeveloped, due to the old ways of living, the island is often regarded as the “real Samoa ”. The second island Upolu is a bit smaller, but its the capital of the country, most of the population lives there and most of the infrastructure is built there. The international airport of Samoa is also located on the Upolu island.



Economy

Most of the economy of Samoa is based on the industrial sector, makes up about 60% of the GDP, followed by service sector, which can be accounted for about 30% of the yearly income and the remainder of the income is generated from the agriculture sector and some other minor sectors. Taro used to be the main export crop of Samoa, but in the ninety nineties a fungus destroyed most of the root crop and now days its grown only by a couple of farmers and the export of this crop is almost non existent. The main products that are exported today are: copra - Dried coconut meat, cocoa beans and bananas

Incorporation

The company registration process in Samoa usually takes around 5 business days. The type of company usually incorporated is a type of an international trade and investment company based on the International companies act of 1987. The minimum number of shareholders for a company is one, the same applies for the company director. Both of them may reside anywhere in the world and may be of any nationality. The board and shareholder meetings may take place anywhere in the world. A local office with a local secretary is obligatory. The local address of the company may be address of a licensed trust and management company.

Restrictions on company name

The name of the company may be in any language, the English translation of the company name may be requested. The company name may not be identical or closely similar to already existing company name, offensive or undesirable to the government, any name that may suggest that the company is involved in banking or the insurance industries or may suggest illegal activities. Also a suffix to denote Limited liability must be added to the end company name.

Language

The official languages of Samoa are Samoan and English. The Samoan is the dominant language of the country, English is taught in all schools. A specific Samoan Sign language is used by most of the deaf population.
